The 14-time NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car world champion was in Dallas Monday to help promote the upcoming 25th anniversary O’Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals, Sept. 23-26.

Force met with media at the beginning and end of his day. Force also toured the Dallas Cowboys’ training facility and helped launch a contest for fans.

Force spent 34 days of his life in a local hospital in 2007, mending severe injuries suffered in a racing crash at Texas Motorplex. Force developed a soft spot for the Cowboys during that time.

“I would be up all night because of the pain and at 4 a.m., you can watch football or football-related shows here,” Force said. “I hadn’t paid any attention to football since I played in high school and watching it for the month I was in the hospital got me back into the game.”

During the training facility tour, Force met with the Cowboys’ Strength and Conditioning coach, Joe Juraszek for some tips on how to continue and improve his rehabilitation. Force and Juraszek traded stories, talked about ways to stay motivated in a training program and how Force’s attitude was paramount when dealing with his rehabilitation.

“One of the most difficult parts of the rehab was depression,” Force said. “There were days when I would drive me to the gym and I just didn’t feel like going in there and doing the work. But the rehab was the most important part. Being in the gym made it possible for me to get back to racing.”

Once Force had completed the Cowboys tour, he went to a local O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Irving. Force gave away tickets to the upcoming race, high-fived fans and talked about his favorite moments of Texas Motorplex racing with his longtime friend and Motorplex owner, Billy Meyer.

“Force is one of those incredible competitors that draws fans in,” Meyer said. “We wanted to personally invite fans out to the 25th anniversary Fall Nationals and we wanted the biggest name in the sport to get fans excited and ready for the event.”

The 25th anniversary event will be a must-win stop for some NHRA professional drivers. It’s the third of six playoff events in the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to 1 championship series. Force has logged seven victories at the all-concrete facility – a Motorplex record.

“We’ve been fortunate to have the two nitro points leaders visit the DFW area lately,” Texas Motorplex General Manager Gabrielle Stevenson said. “Larry Dixon took the time to visit a children’s hospital and media in July and now we’ve had Force launch a fan giveaway contest, meet fans and talk to media this week. The Fall Nationals is a special time of year for racers and fans and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the event that with the Top Fuel and Funny Car points leaders.”

Shortly after 1 p.m. radio show hosts Richie Whitt and Greg Williams announced the ticket offer and told fans Force had more to say when he arrived at the O’Reilly Auto Parts store. The offer spread through a variety of social media networks. Force made the official announcement shortly after 3 p.m. in Irving. One name will be selected at the end of every day, with the winner announced daily for a special give-aways and ticket packages. There will be 25 winners in all.
